The Wisconsin DNR reminds deer hunters that although the 2025 nine-day gun deer season is now closed, additional opportunities remain through late fall and early winter. Late-season firearm options include muzzleloader season (Dec. 1–10), statewide antlerless-only hunt (Dec. 11–14), and an antlerless-only holiday hunt (Dec. 24–Jan. 1, 2026) in select Farmland Zone units. During these hunts, hunters may use any unfilled antlerless harvest authorization, but it must be used in the zone, county, and land type designated on the authorization; only antlerless deer may be harvested during the statewide and holiday hunts regardless of weapon type. Archery and crossbow seasons continue statewide through Jan. 4, 2026, with extended dates in metro subunits and certain deer management units (up to Jan. 31, 2026 in some areas). All harvested deer must be registered electronically by 5 p.m. the day after recovery. The Deer Hunter Wildlife Survey also remains open through all deer seasons, inviting hunters to report observations to aid population estimates for Wisconsin’s deer herd and other species.
