Avalanche Journal: Fans Aren’t the Only Ones Excited to Meet Rebecca Yarros at ‘Fourth Wing’ Night

Brock Nelson discovered Violet Sorrengail while browsing a Toronto bookstore with his former New York Islanders teammate Matt Martin. That moment introduced him to the fantastical world of Rebecca Yarros’ “Fourth Wing.”

Meanwhile, goaltender Scott Wedgewood became captivated by the dragon-filled, romantic fantasy universe of the same series during a drive from Michigan to Denver.

Over 2,500 fans bought special tickets for “Fourth Wing” night at Ball Arena, eager to celebrate the first novel in Yarros’ “Empyrean” series. But the spectators aren’t the only ones looking forward to meeting the Colorado Springs author and hockey mom.

“I’m pumped for that night, the jersey, having Rebecca there,” said Nelson. “I’m hoping I get to meet her. It’s cool to have that connection now.”

Nelson recalled how he first learned that Yarros was a hockey fan. A year earlier, someone mentioned she had attended one of his games.

“I had no idea. Then I saw that she’s a huge fan. Fast forward to now with ‘Fourth Wing’ night, and it’s pretty cool.”

The Yarros household proudly supports the Avalanche. Despite her husband being an East Coast native and lifelong Rangers fan, the family enjoys following Colorado hockey together. They attended a game in Denver last season when the author’s ceremonial first pitch at Fenway Park was mentioned.
