Queensland’s cross-border commissioner, Ian Leavers, has passed away at his home. He was found by police around 9:50 am. The death is not considered suspicious, though investigations continue.
“Leavers has been a strong voice for the challenges facing communities and businesses along the state’s borders during a critical stage of rebuilding following the impact of the COVID pandemic,” said Premier David Crisafulli.
“Ian earned the respect of Queenslanders for saying it how it was, and always standing up for the police service he loved. He was dedicated, principled, and driven to make a difference for this state. Queenslanders will remember his leadership during some of our state’s most tragic and defining events.”
Appointed as cross-border commissioner in October last year, Ian Leavers was responsible for supporting border communities in Queensland. His appointment came after a long and distinguished career with the Queensland Police.
Leavers leaves behind a legacy marked by dedication to policing and service to the state of Queensland.
