Princess Charlene crowns the talent of Monaco's young students

On Wednesday morning, Collège Charles III came alive with energy as the second edition of the creative jersey competition took place. The event merged the vibrant worlds of rugby and art, celebrating imagination and teamwork among Monaco’s students.

A colourful collaboration

The contest was organised by the Monegasque Rugby Federation, in partnership with the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and the Direction de l’Éducation Nationale, de la Jeunesse et des Sports. Nearly 160 pupils from grades 6 to 9 joined the initiative, guided by their art teachers throughout a five-week creative process.

Each participant faced an inspiring challenge: to design a rugby jersey that symbolically united Monaco and South Africa, integrating the emblems of both the Federation and the Foundation.

“The jersey that will carry Monaco’s colours in Dubai was born from the creativity of 160 budding young artists,” said the President of the Monegasque Rugby Federation during the unveiling.

Art and sport in harmony

This cultural bridge carried special meaning for Princess Charlene, who was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, and maintains a strong connection to her African heritage. Accompanied by her brother Gareth Wittstock, Secretary General of her Foundation, the Princess personally congratulated all 158 participants and commended the imagination shown by the 17 finalists.

Creative talent and shared values

The event marked another step in promoting values of creativity, perseverance, and cultural exchange—principles at the heart of both sport and education in Monaco.
