Nashville Police Chief John Drake stated that the overall crime rate is down, but he is concerned about juvenile crime.
Chief Drake is monitoring the National Guard deployment in Memphis, calling it "unprecedented" to send troops to American cities to deal with crime.
"Nashville is not Memphis, and I'm hoping they look at us and say crime is significantly down and they won't come here to do some of the things they are doing,"
Some politicians, including GOP State Rep. Andy Ogles, are encouraging the National Guard's presence in Nashville, with Ogles stating:
"We don’t just need the National Guard in Memphis, send them to Nashville. Comrade O'Connell is using the city as an outpost for international gangs to set up shop in our neighborhoods."
Chief Drake emphasizes that there is no need for deployment in Nashville.
