911 center adds behavioral health specialist for another layer of support

Enhancing 911 Support with Behavioral Health Specialist

The Charlottesville-UVA-Albemarle Emergency Communications Center has introduced a new position, the Behavioral Health Specialist, to improve responses to mental health emergencies.

This role aims to provide callers in distress with care, understanding, and appropriate help. Courtney Anderson, the center's first Behavioral Health Specialist, supports both callers and dispatchers.

We are keeping everybody in mind in our community, not just one person but an abundance of people.

Anderson's position was created in response to the growing need for specialized mental health support during emergency calls.
