Poppies are back for Remembrance Day
The Royal Canadian Legion’s national poppy campaign is back, supporting veterans and their families.
The campaign runs from October 31 to November 11, raising money for Canada’s veterans and their families.
History of the Poppy
The legion adopted the poppy as a symbol to commemorate the service and sacrifices of fallen soldiers in 1921, inspired by
John McCrae’s poem “In Flanders Fields”.
How to Get a Poppy and Donate
Poppies are given out freely to anyone who wishes to wear one, and the legion asks for a donation to the Poppy Fund.
- Poppies are distributed by the legion’s many branches across the country.
- Traditional poppy boxes are available at thousands of locations across Canadian communities.
Donations collected during the campaign are held in trust at each branch.
