Optical Vendor Ribbon Suffers Cybersecurity Incident
Telcos worldwide are experiencing cyberbreaches, but vendors are also being targeted.
Ribbon Communications, a Plano, Texas-based optical and IP networking system developer, recently admitted to being hacked by "unauthorized persons, reportedly associated with a nation-state actor," believed to be a reference to China.
The hackers have been sitting quietly in Ribbon's IT systems for almost a year.
The incident was disclosed in the company's 10-Q filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), detailing its third quarter financial performance, under the sub-heading "Cybersecurity Incident Disclosure" on page 57.
Ribbon's case highlights that tech suppliers, like network operators, are also vulnerable to cyberattacks.
