Record Number of Non-Attending Students

A Ministry of Education survey found that 19,602 elementary and junior high school students in Fukuoka Prefecture missed 30 or more days of school in fiscal 2023, an increase of 1,454 from the previous year.

This equates to 47.2 students per 1,000, the fourth-highest rate nationwide and above the average of 38.6.

Among high school students, 3,372 were chronically absent, down 215 from the previous year but still above average at 27.3 per 1,000.

Reported bullying cases in the prefecture rose by 3,062 to 20,245, including 51 deemed serious.

The prefecture operates the “Ijime Rescue Center,” offering consultations to children and parents.
