The Sopranos has a iconic opening title sequence, featuring Tony Soprano driving through New Jersey, set to the song "Woke Up This Morning" by Alabama 3.
However, creator David Chase initially considered a different song, by Elvis Costello, which would have explicitly stated the show's themes.
It would have been a terrible choice
This alternative song would have ruined the show's subtle approach, making the theme too obvious.
Luckily, Chase chose the soulful techno track "Woke Up This Morning", creating a perfect opening sequence.
