In waterways, farms and skies across regional Australia, the next wave of environmental and energy innovation is already taking off.
In the crystalline waters surrounding Badu Island in the Torres Strait, a group of friends, including Dennis Fay, a Cairns-based firefighter and former Australian Army soldier, are making a name for themselves on YouTube.
“Because the Torres Strait sits between two large land masses [Australia and Papua New Guinea], it acts like a funnel,”
Dennis says, expressing his dismay at the amount of debris, including glass, plastics and discarded fishing nets, that litters every beach in the archipelago.
