An Post is proposing to amalgamate the Barnatra postal sorting office into a new central facility on Ballina's Killala road, set to take place in the spring of next year.
A purpose-designed sorting facility was built in 2019 in Barnatra to service the 13 postmen and post-women who cover the Erris region.
Mayo Sinn Fein Deputy Rose Conway-Walsh attended a meeting in Barnatra where workers expressed their concerns over the proposal.
She described the move as "crazy", citing the 100-mile round trip workers would have to make every day between Ballina and the Erris region on a "bad and dangerous road" if the move goes ahead.
Deputy Conway-Walsh discussed this issue with Midwest Radio's Rowan Kelly.
