Wiedower resigns, special election to be held in Dec.

Resignation and Special Election

Marcus Wiedower, first sworn into office in 2019, has announced his resignation from the Georgia General Assembly to focus on his role at Hillpointe, a real estate development firm.

His immediate resignation from House District 121 triggers a special election to be held in December. Democrat Eric Gisler, currently running for the House seat in 2026, may also choose to run in the special election.

This is not the first special election in recent history for Oconee County, with similar events occurring in 2017 after the resignations of Rep. Chuck Williams and Regina Quick.

Special elections were held to fill the seats of Rep. Chuck Williams and Regina Quick in 2017, resulting in Democrats Jonathan Wallace and Deborah Gonzalez flipping both House seats that represent Oconee County.

Author's summary: Wiedower resigns from Georgia General Assembly.
