The Gideon Bulldogs rallied from an early deficit to defeat Bernie 3-1, clinching their first district volleyball title since 2021 and earning a spot in the state tournament.
This was the third meeting between the Gideon Bulldogs and the Bernie Mules this season, with the previous two matches resulting in a sweep by Gideon and a five-set win by Bernie, respectively.
Gideon took the win in four sets, beating Bernie 3-1 to claim their first district championship since 2021. The win came as a relief to head coach Kristen Ashabranner and her team, especially after dropping the first set 25-12.
“We couldn’t put anything together,”
Ashabranner said, noting that the team called two timeouts before Bernie even reached eight points.
