Eglin battalion chief and wife lose Crestview home to lightning strike, community rallies in support

Eglin Battalion Chief's Home Destroyed by Lightning Strike

Brian and Kimberly Johnson's house caught fire after a lightning strike, prompting an outpouring of support from the community.

Battalion Fire Chief Brian Johnson, a DOD firefighter at Eglin Air Force Base, experienced an emergency on the other side when lightning struck his home on September 25.

"I heard the breaker trip in the laundry room, so I went and checked on it, and then I started walking around the house to see if I noticed the power being out or if anything was scorched or damaged,"

Brian was home alone when the fire started around 6:30 p.m. during a thunderstorm. He investigated and found smoke pouring from the breaker box, prompting him to call 911.

The community, including neighbors, firefighters, and strangers, has rallied to support the Johnsons.
