The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors will hold a meeting on October 28 to gather public input on how to fill the vacancy left by the removal of Sheriff Christina Corpus.
The board unanimously voted to oust Corpus, and Undersheriff Dan Perea has assumed the sheriff's duties, but will not be named interim sheriff.
As San Mateo County is the first in California to remove a voter-elected sheriff, the board is seeking guidance from the public on how to proceed.
"This meeting is a vital opportunity for community members to participate in shaping the future of public safety in San Mateo County,"
said Board President David Canepa. The meeting will allow the public to offer suggestions and discuss desired qualities in the next sheriff.
