Nigerian Lawmaker Recommends Creation of Six New States
Nigeria's Senate and House of Representatives joint committee has approved the creation of six additional states in the country.
This decision was reached at the end of a two-day retreat, co-chaired by Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, in Lagos.
The committee considered a total of 69 bills, including:
- 55 state creation requests
- 2 boundary adjustments
- 278 local government creation requests
