The Caribbean sea lanes have long been used for both tourism and illegal activities. However, a change in US policy may finally put an end to the drug and violence pipeline in the region.
In The Bahamas, a new US ambassador is set to be appointed, with former football star Herschel Walker as the nominee. Walker promises to bring his business experience to the diplomatic table.
"I know how to run a business, how to create jobs, how to make payroll. Those lessons translate into building relationships and building trust,"
Walker said, highlighting his background in food-service companies and small business leadership.
