A senior UN official has warned that Gaza risks a "lost generation" due to the devastating state of its education system.
According to Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF's regional director for the Middle East and North Africa, nearly all children in Gaza have been without formal schooling for a third consecutive year.
"This is the third year that there has been no school... If we don't start a real transition for all children in February, we will enter a fourth year. And then we can talk about a lost generation."
The situation has prompted fears of a "lost generation" in Gaza, with the UN warning of the need for urgent action to restore the education system.
