WWII Veteran Don Bergman Prepares to Celebrate 100th Birthday

A Tri-State World War II veteran, Don Bergman, is getting ready to celebrate his 100th birthday in less than two months.

According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, only 45,418 of the 16.4 million Americans who served in World War II are still alive in 2025, which is less than 1%.

Don Bergman's life story began when his father, Herman Bergman, founded Bergman Nurseries in Quincy, Illinois in 1939. Don recalls his father making all his sons work for the business while growing up.

However, in 1943, at the age of 17, Don made the choice to join the Navy right out of high school, ready to serve in World War II.

War inflicts a lot of pain and tragic loss on those involved.
