Concerns over Inhumane Treatment during Deportations

A Nigerian man recounted his experience of being deported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in September.

He described being woken up in the middle of the night, along with other detainees, and having shackles placed on their hands and feet.

Despite being told they were being sent to Ghana, a country none of them were from, their requests to speak to their attorney were denied.

The officers then used full-body restraint suits, known as the WRAP, which is also referred to as "the burrito" or "the bag", to further restrain the already shackled men.

"It was just like a kidnapping,"

the Nigerian man said in an interview with The Associated Press from a detainment camp in Ghana, where he and other deportees were being held.

This experience is part of a federal lawsuit and raises concerns over the inhumane treatment of immigrants during deportations.

Author's summary: ICE's use of full-body restraints sparks concerns.
