Magistrate loses patience, man who has breached five corrections orders jailed

Magistrate Loses Patience, Man Jailed for Breaching Corrections Orders

A Portland man, David Coulshed, has been jailed for a month for breaching five corrections orders.

Coulshed appeared in the Portland Magistrates' Court on October 14, 2025, for a sentencing hearing. The case had a history of about 10 previous adjournments and court mentions.

Coulshed told the court he had a "broken back, but was not a cripple"

Despite having a significant back injury and dealing with anxiety, Coulshed was found unsuitable to undertake a community corrections order. Magistrate Tim Gattuso heard the case and jailed Coulshed.

A letter from Coulshed's doctor outlined his struggles with anxiety and the medications he was taking.
