Thanksgiving Dinner and Grocery Hampers for Those in Need

The Yellowknife Salvation Army had a big weekend, providing Thanksgiving dinner to many in need. Approximately 250 people attended a traditional turkey meal on Monday.

"We served them restaurant style — having them take a seat and we had somebody come take their order and deliver everything to the table for them. Everybody seemed to appreciate the service and the food," said Tony Brushett, executive director of the Yellowknife Salvation Army.

The organization also sold all 600 of its hampers on Saturday, raising close to $20,000 for groceries to support the food bank. An additional $1,000 was donated, which will go toward food security programs.

According to Brushett, "It was a busy weekend, but a very successful weekend."
