A 'Refurbishment / Demolition Asbestos Survey' was submitted to Derry City and Strabane District Council as part of a Listed Building Consent application for the former Convent of Mercy on Pump Street.
The report, completed on September 28, 2016, stated:
Urgent remedial action is required to make safe asbestos identified on this site.
The application for the "partial controlled demolition of [the] unsafe structure" was submitted on October 8 by MKA Planning, after the unoccupied Grade BI listed building partially collapsed on October 5.
