A Personal Reflection

Nearly 50 years ago, the term "Jakey bum" was first used in the author's presence, but its definition was unclear.

The author recalls the encounter occurring in 1978 in Troy, N.Y., likely in or near the Eldorado Hotel on Fourth Street.

The hotel was a regular gathering place for reporters, who enjoyed plentiful and inexpensive food, mostly sandwiches, on pay days (Fridays).
