Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has announced that he will no longer remain party president, marking the end of his six-decade-long active political career.
Deuba's decision comes after more than 54 percent of Nepali Congress representatives pushed for a special convention to elect new leadership, following anti-corruption protests on September 9, during which Deuba and his wife Arzu Rana Deuba were physically attacked and injured.
Deuba has been complaining of dizziness and other health complications since the attack, in which he was injured in the back of his neck with a sharp object.
According to party leaders, Deuba will still have a significant say in picking the new leadership. Deuba and his wife may soon go to Singapore or Thailand for treatment, with Singapore being their preferred destination.
