19-year-old Father Sentenced for Strangling and Injuring Baby Daughter
Jacob Kats, a 19-year-old man from Marshall County, has been sentenced for strangling and severely injuring his 4-month-old daughter.
In March 2023, Kats was arrested after his daughter was taken to the hospital with several fractures and suspicious injuries. Investigators determined that the injuries were intentionally inflicted by Kats, who was 17 at the time.
Kats pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and received a 15-year sentence, with 13 years in prison and 2 years on probation. Charges of attempted murder and neglect resulting in serious bodily injury were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Prosecutors stated that Kats received a 15-year sentence.
