The film, directed by Joel Schumacher, was released 5 years after Tim Burton's Batman Returns and took a drastically different approach, amplifying the campiness of its predecessor, Batman Forever.
It was the complete polar opposite of what Burton had set out to do less than a decade earlier with 1989's Batman.
Despite being a commercial success, the movie is still widely considered one of the worst comic book adaptations, and its box office performance fell short of its predecessor.
According to O'Donnell and Silverstone, Schumacher was left "heartbroken and kind of bummed out" by the fan response.
