Police confirmed the death of Ava Ahlander, a Utah native, who was hit by debris during a storm at the Redwest Music Festival in Salt Lake City.
Ahlander, who grew up in American Fork and lived in Seattle, attended the festival with friends. She was leaving the venue when organizers asked the crowd to clear out due to the approaching storm.
“They had actually asked everybody to leave because of storm conditions,” said her uncle, Bobby Ahlander. “It looks like a large wooden plank or something that was up on scaffolding blew down and hit her, struck her in the head at the base of her skull.”
Paramedics found Ahlander without a pulse. The family remembers her as they come to terms with the tragic loss.
