A light plane crashed and caught fire at Shellharbour Airport on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of three people on board.

The incident occurred at approximately 10am on October 11, when the Piper Cherokee Lance aircraft took off and got about 30 metres into the air before dipping and contacting the tarmac with its left wing.
According to Lake Illawarra police district's chief inspector Aaron Wunderlich, witnesses described the aircraft's left wing coming down and contacting the tarmac before the plane caught fire.
