First Minister John Swinney's Speech to SNP Annual Conference 2025

We are building a country for all of Scotland, where the sense of possibility runs deep through all our cities, towns, villages, and every community.

The First Minister also acknowledged the brave journalists risking their lives to report on the genocide in Gaza.

Now, we must all step up to secure the peace. To turn hope into reality for Israel and Palestine, for the displaced, the distraught and the destitute.

He emphasized that every life is sacred and of equal value, and every family, whether Palestinian or Israeli, deserves to live in peace and dignity.

According to the First Minister, peace is a long-term project that sometimes requires far-sighted investment, and international development is often the first line of defence against conflict, population displacement, and humanitarian catastrophe.

However, he criticized Labour for slashing overseas aid at Westminster.
