Remembrance Sunday Services and Parades in Wirral

On Remembrance Sunday, residents of Wirral will come together to honour those who have fallen in service. The borough will observe a moment of silence during services held across the area on Sunday, 9 November.

Civic Service Details

The Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Brian Kenny, will lead the Civic Service starting at 10:55 AM at the Cenotaph in Hamilton Square, Birkenhead. The event includes a two-minute silence at 11:00 AM, followed by a traditional Service of Remembrance.

The service will be conducted by Reverend Paul Bentley, Vicar of Birkenhead Priory Parish and Rural Dean of Birkenhead. Readings and blessings will also be given by The Right Reverend Julie Conalty, Bishop of Birkenhead, and Reverend Debbie Wilkinson, Wirral Waters Mission Lead.

Wreath Laying and March Past

The Mayor will lay a wreath at the Cenotaph on behalf of the people of Wirral, accompanied by Deputy Lieutenant Sue Higginson OBE DL, who will lay one on behalf of His Majesty The King. Following them, representatives from Wirral Council, armed forces, various organisations, and relatives of servicemen lost in recent conflicts will pay their respects.

At the conclusion of the service, the Mayor and Deputy Lieutenant will take the salute during a march past led by the 107 Field Squadron, Royal Engineers.

Public Participation

After the parade departs Hamilton Square, members of the public will have the chance to leave their tributes on the Cenotaph.
