Jordan Staal marked a significant milestone by playing his 910th game as a Carolina Hurricane, surpassing his brother Eric Staal's record. During Thursday night's game, Staal also engaged in a rare fight, causing him to miss part of the match.
The game ended on a high note as the Hurricanes defeated the Minnesota Wild 4-3. Staal, the team captain, reflected on the achievement:
“I appreciate the boys battling it out for me there. Getting a good memory out of milestone game and getting the two points. It has been a lot of fun with these guys here and all the other teammates I’ve played with—it has been just a joy and blessing and I’m just happy to keep going.”
At 37 years old, Jordan Staal ranks third in franchise history for games played, including the period when the team was the Hartford Whalers. Only Ron Francis (1,186 games) and Glen Wesley (913 games) have played more games for the franchise.
Before joining the Hurricanes, Staal spent the first six seasons of his NHL career with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
