The Los Angeles Chargers recently acquired offensive lineman Trevor Penning through a trade ahead of their matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, hoping to strengthen their injury-depleted front line. However, Head Coach Jim Harbaugh remains uncertain about whether Penning will make his debut this Sunday.
Los Angeles has battled significant setbacks this season, losing both starting offensive tackles. Rashawn Slater has been out for some time, and Joe Alt was recently placed on injured reserve. The addition of Penning provides depth and flexibility, as he can perform in multiple roles along the line.
“Trevor Penning’s status for the Steelers game is to be determined,”
Harbaugh told reporters on Tuesday. He noted that the team is enthusiastic about evaluating Penning in practice and discovering his fit within their system.
“I feel like we’ve got good players. Enough good, tough players, which we liked about him. Finishes, played a lot of football. I think he’s kind of like what we like. Love the versatility, but also the ability to play tackle. That’s what the week of practice will be for, to figure out exactly where Trevor fits in best.”
While Harbaugh expressed optimism, he acknowledged that Penning’s game readiness will depend on how he performs in the coming practice sessions.
Jim Harbaugh praised Trevor Penning’s toughness and versatility but confirmed the Chargers have yet to decide whether the lineman will play against the Steelers this weekend.
