EDMONTON — Nathan MacKinnon scored twice and added two assists as the Western Conference-leading Colorado Avalanche dominated the Edmonton Oilers 9-1 on Saturday night.
Cale Makar, Parker Kelly, and Jack Drury each recorded two goals, while Gavin Brindley added another for Colorado (9-1-5), which has earned points in six straight games. Devon Toews contributed three assists to the effort. The Oilers (6-6-4), plagued by inconsistency, suffered their third consecutive defeat.
Scott Wedgewood made 23 saves to secure the win for the Avalanche. Edmonton’s Stuart Skinner surrendered four goals on 13 shots before being replaced by Calvin Pickard, who stopped 17 of 22 shots faced.
Just over a minute after opening the scoring with 6:31 left in the first period, Cale Makar struck again with a precision wrist shot for his sixth goal of the season. That tally boosted his total to 20 points and extended his road point streak to nine games.
“It was one of those nights where everything clicked,” said head coach Jared Bednar, praising the Avalanche’s balanced attack and relentless pace.
