Jesus boldly confronts corruption in the temple with prophetic zeal, an act that marks the beginning of his path toward crucifixion.
Jesus led me back to the temple entrance, where water flowed from beneath the threshold toward the east, as the temple faced east. The water came from below the south end of the temple threshold, south of the altar.
He then brought me out through the north gate and guided me around the outer gate facing east, where the water was seen flowing on the south side.
“This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah; and when it enters the sea, the sea of stagnant waters, the water will become fresh. Wherever the river goes, every living creature that swarms will live, and there will be very many fish, once these waters reach there. It will become fresh; and everything will live where the river goes.
On both banks of the river, all kinds of trees for food will grow. Their leaves will never wither, nor will their fruit fail, bearing fresh fruit every month because the water flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult.
This reflection reveals Jesus’s transformative power in confronting corruption and offers hope through the life-giving water flowing from the sanctuary, symbolizing renewal and healing.
