J.J. Watt returned to Houston for a memorable day at NRG Stadium, where he once dominated as a star defensive end for the Texans. Before calling Sunday’s game between Houston and Jacksonville for CBS Sports, the 36-year-old announcer took the field with his 3-year-old son, Koa.
“It was the best,” Watt said. “This was such a cool morning for me to have my wife, Kealia, and my son, Koa, out on the field. So many memories in this building and to see him run into that end zone, the same one I’ve run into before, was just unbelievable.”
Drafted 11th overall by the Texans in 2011 after playing for Wisconsin, Watt became one of the most dominant defensive players of his era. Over ten seasons in Houston, he was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year three times and earned five First-team All-Pro honors.
After the 2020 season, Watt requested release from the Texans and went on to sign a two-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals. His time in Arizona was marked by perseverance through injury—he suffered a shoulder injury in 2021 requiring surgery and later revealed in October 2022 that he experienced atrial fibrillation, saying he “had my heart shocked back into rhythm.”
During an emotional return to Houston, J.J. Watt shared a joyful on-field moment with his son, reliving memories from his celebrated decade with the Texans.
