A woman and a child tragically died after falling into a waterway in southeast Melbourne on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 3:45 pm at Dandenong Creek near Allan Street in Dandenong. Authorities believe the mother began struggling while trying to save the child from the water.
Emergency services quickly arrived and found the mother and child unconscious in the water. Despite performing CPR, both could not be revived and were declared dead at the scene.
Neither of the victims has yet been formally identified. Police are preparing a report for the coroner as part of the investigation.
