The Seattle Kraken defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 3-1 on Monday night. André Burakovsky scored the lone goal for Chicago against his former team, while Arvid Söderblom made 21 saves in net.
Matty Beniers and Jordan Eberle each tallied a goal and an assist for Seattle, while Jamie Oleksiak also found the back of the net. Goalie Joey Daccord recorded 29 saves to secure the victory.
Less than three minutes into the second period, Oleksiak fired a wrist shot from the blue line that slipped past multiple players, including Söderblom, marking his second goal of the season.
Following a tripping penalty by Chicago’s Ryan Donato midway through the period, Seattle capitalized just eight seconds into its first power play. Eberle delivered a precise backhand pass to Beniers, who finished it off for his second goal of the year.
“Eberle saucered a backhand pass to Beniers in the slot, and the Kraken forward finished it off for his second goal of the season.”
Chicago finally broke through in the third period when Burakovsky, traded from Seattle during the offseason for Joe Veleno, scored on a breakaway. A sharp pass from Connor Bedard set him up alone in front of the net.
Late in the third period, after a Chicago turnover in the neutral zone, Eberle restored Seattle’s two-goal lead by netting his fifth of the season with less than four minutes left in regulation.
Author’s summary: Seattle’s balanced offense led by Eberle and Beniers overpowered Chicago, despite Burakovsky’s goal against his former team.
