The nation’s capital could see its first measurable snowfall of the season as temperatures dip below seasonal norms this weekend, according to Environment Canada.
The weekend will begin with rain and a high near 4°C on Friday. Showers are expected to taper off in the evening, though light rain may continue intermittently through the night.
By Saturday, temperatures should stay just above freezing, with occasional sunny breaks as the sun pushes through the clouds. Wind gusts of about 20 km/h are expected.
Late Saturday into early Sunday morning, the mercury will drop to around -6°C, and flurries are likely to develop. Sunday’s forecast calls for snow and highs near 0°C, dipping to -3°C overnight.
While a few stray flakes fell earlier this week without accumulation, this weekend marks the first potential snowfall of the season for Ottawa. Environment Canada warns of notably cooler-than-usual conditions continuing into Monday night, with lows around -13°C.
“Normals this time of year hover around 7°C and -1°C,” Environment Canada stated.
Ottawa faces its first real brush with winter this weekend as temperatures tumble and the season’s first snowfall looms, signaling a sharp shift from typical November conditions.
