Up to 10 cm of Snow Expected in Toronto on Sunday

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement forecasting between 5 to 10 centimeters of snow starting Sunday morning and lasting through the day. This marks the first significant snowfall of the season for the Greater Toronto Area.

“There remains uncertainty with respect to the track of this weather system, and as such forecast snowfall amounts may change,” officials wrote.

The statement covers a wide region stretching from London to Ottawa. Areas such as Stratford and Orillia may experience varying snowfall totals depending on the system’s final path, with lower confidence in predictions for the northwest regions.

A snowfall warning is also in effect for parts of eastern Ontario, where some locations could see as much as 20 centimeters of accumulation.

“This is system snow, it’s going to be widespread, so this is indeed our first widespread snow event of the season,” said CityNews Meteorologist Chris Potter.

According to Potter, the weather system will begin as overnight rain before turning to snow Sunday morning. After a brief pause, snow is expected to intensify again by afternoon and continue into the evening hours.

“Keep in mind what falls might not equate to what stays on the ground,” said Potter, adding that downtown Toronto may see around 2 cm, while northern areas could receive 5 to 10 cm.
