Sigourney Weaver revealed the main reason she joined the cast of Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu was the script written by Jon Favreau, rather than the franchise's legacy or star-studded cast.
Known for her iconic role in the Alien franchise, Weaver adds another notable credit to her career with this Star Wars project. In the film, she portrays Ward, a colonel and leader of the New Republic's Adelphi Rangers, who formerly served as a pilot for the Rebel Alliance.
"What really caught my interest was Jon Favreau’s script," Weaver told Empire magazine.
The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to bring the Star Wars saga back to cinemas under the direction and co-writing of Jon Favreau, alongside Dave Filoni. The movie is produced by Lucasfilm and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
The story continues the adventure from the popular Disney+ series The Mandalorian and stars Pedro Pascal reprising his role as Din Djarin, with Weaver, Jeremy Allen White, and Jonny Coyne joining in important new roles.
Author's summary: Sigourney Weaver joined The Mandalorian & Grogu driven primarily by Jon Favreau’s compelling script, marking a significant addition to her distinguished sci-fi career.
