Red Hugh O'Donnell, the Irish leader of the rebellion against England, was buried in Spain, in the same place as Christopher Columbus.
Christopher Columbus's body was originally buried in the Franciscan convent of San Francisco in Valladolid. A plaque commemorating him, inaugurated in 2021, also mentions other figures buried there, including Red Hugh O'Donnell.
Red Hugh O'Donnell was the head of the O'Donnell clan and leader of the rebellion against English rule, known as Cogadh na Naoi mBliana, or The Nine Years' War in Gaelic. His memory is honored in many locations, such as Simancas Castle, La Coruña, and his native Ireland.
Red Hugh O'Donnell found his final resting place in the same location as Christopher Columbus.
