Wicked: For Good premieres in theaters on Friday, November 21. The original Wicked movie, released in November 2024, quickly became a cultural sensation.
Based on the popular Broadway musical, the film explores the story of Glinda (Ariana Grande), the Good Witch of the North, and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), the Wicked Witch of the West. Contrary to their famous rivalry, they were actually close friends and college roommates before a series of events drove them apart.
At the conclusion of the first movie, Glinda and Elphaba reach the Emerald City to meet the Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum), hoping he can stop the mysterious force stealing the voices of Ozian animals. However, the Wizard is revealed as the mastermind behind the disruption.
"The Wizard himself is behind the chaos, and he wants Elphaba to help him in his overarching plans for Oz."
Elphaba rejects the Wizard’s offer and escapes Oz, determined to save the animals alone. Glinda, meanwhile, remains behind and seems to gain favor with the Wizard and the ruling establishment by the film’s end.
The upcoming sequel, Wicked: For Good, will reveal what happens next. While fans familiar with the Broadway show have a general idea of the story’s conclusion, the film promises a unique take on the ending with many mysteries still to unfold.
The original Wicked: One Wonderful Night is available to stream exclusively on Peacock.
This sequel continues to explore the complex friendship and conflict between Glinda and Elphaba, promising a fresh cinematic twist on the iconic story fans love.
