Brendan Gallagher’s Value to Canadiens Beyond Scoring

Despite scoring 21 goals last season, veteran winger Brendan Gallagher, 33, has struggled to score this season. Last year, he was the Canadiens’ third-highest goal scorer behind Cole Caufield (37) and Nick Suzuki (30).

After a 5-4 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday, Gallagher has yet to score in 13 games this season. For comparison, he had five goals after 13 games and seven goals after 15 games last season.

Although Gallagher has not scored, he contributed seven assists in the first 13 games this season.

Assessing Gallagher’s Goal-Scoring Concerns

The question of how much Gallagher’s goal drought matters is explored on this Hockey Inside/Out bonus episode. The Gazette’s Stu Cowan is joined by former Canadiens teammates and 1986 Stanley Cup champions Chris Nilan and Rick Green.

Two more bonus episodes are expected in the coming days.

Author’s summary: Brendan Gallagher’s impact on the Canadiens cannot be measured by goals alone, as he continues to provide valuable playmaking despite a scoring slump.
