Blackmagic updated its free camera app, simplifying live streaming for both casual creators and professional broadcasters. Users no longer need separate programs or encoding gear to share content directly online.
The Android and iOS versions of the Blackmagic Camera app now allow direct streaming to YouTube, Twitch, and Vimeo. Users simply choose a platform and enter a secure stream key to start broadcasting.
While live, all app controls remain available, letting users tweak exposure, focus, and other visual settings in real time.
The update introduces support for SRT, a modern streaming standard that ensures stable performance even on unreliable internet networks. Additionally, users can connect to custom RTMP and SRT servers if they prefer alternatives to the main supported platforms.
Blackmagic also improved data protection with new alerts that notify users when an external drive disconnects. This helps avoid data loss during recording, especially for high-resolution and high-frame-rate Apple ProRes files that the iPhone itself cannot store internally.
“Amateur streamers can broadcast live to several platforms without the need for additional apps or encoding hardware.”
