During a recent Sacramento Kings road trip to Chicago, the Bulls seized the opportunity to celebrate their former star, Zach LaVine. Although LaVine was traded to the Kings earlier in 2025, his recent remarks suggest lingering frustration about leaving Chicago.
"Chicago was my home, and I loved playing there, even when things weren’t perfect."
LaVine did not choose to join Sacramento. Drafted 13th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2014, he spent three seasons there before moving to the Bulls in 2017. Over multiple years in Chicago, he became known as a reliable shooter and a major offensive presence, even as the front office struggled to build a competitive roster around him.
Now with the Kings, LaVine faces a comparable yet more difficult environment. Meanwhile, the Bulls have found new momentum with Josh Giddey, Coby White, and Matas Buzelis leading the team. Kevin Huerter, who joined Chicago in the same three-team trade that sent LaVine to Sacramento, has also flourished there.
When the Kings faced the Bulls on their only trip to the Windy City this season, they suffered a loss. For LaVine, it was his first return as a King—a bittersweet reminder of what he left behind.
Zach LaVine remains nostalgic and seemingly unhappy after being traded to Sacramento, as Chicago continues thriving without him.
