Bishop Brandon Porter and Pastor Keith Caldwell are cautious about law enforcement presence, especially during events like the Saturday Christmas in November celebration. Church parking lots have frequently served as meeting places for state and federal officers.
These locations are often situated in central areas where the Memphis Safe Task Force (MSTF) has operated since September. However, several pastors view these spots as a boundary — a symbolic line marking where their collaboration with the task force stops.
This line represents their resistance to the MSTF and reflects concerns about the task force’s effect on city life.
"They are often centrally located in areas where the Memphis Safe Task Force has been conducting operations since Sept. But they also have come to represent a line of sorts that the pastors of several churches have drawn."
