Elon Musk’s Ex Criticizes AI as a Threat to Children
Musician Claire Elise Boucher, better known as Grimes and former partner of billionaire Elon Musk, has voiced strong concerns over the impact of artificial intelligence on children. In a recent interview, she described the technology as a potential danger that people cannot fully control.
“The biggest imminent threat is just outsourcing thinking,”
Grimes said, hinting at how reliance on AI could diminish human cognitive abilities.
Her remarks came shortly after Musk promoted Grok 3, which he called “the smartest AI on Earth,” during a presentation on his social platform X. The company now integrates AI for both text and image content and is open to users starting from age 13, though it lacks any formal age verification.
Commenting on the exposure of young audiences to such technologies, Grimes referenced past harmful societal habits, saying:
“I'm tired of experimenting on kids, you know, smoking, McDonald's, and now we’re gonna do it with this?”
She drew attention to studies suggesting AI might weaken natural brain function. Despite her worries, Grimes acknowledged her fascination with the future of artificial intelligence.
“In some ways I can’t wait for superintelligence — in some ways I can’t wait. It’s not as easy since I’ve had kids,”
she admitted, reflecting on her conflicted hopes and fears about AI’s direction.
