Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife Kayla announced the heartbreaking passing of their infant daughter, Sterling. The couple shared their grief publicly on Friday through an emotional Instagram post.
“Our little angel, we love you forever and you’re with us always. Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday, October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through, but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
Vesia also expressed gratitude toward the Dodgers organization, teammates, and fans for their support during this difficult period. He praised the Dodger community, the Blue Jays organization, and baseball fans for their messages and kindness, saying that their compassion had brought great comfort to his family.
“Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them. Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization and all baseball fans for your love and support. We’ve seen all your messages and posts—it’s brought us so much comfort.”
The couple also thanked Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the medical staff who supported Kayla and Sterling, describing each person they met as “truly incredible.”
Vesia’s post included a black-and-white photograph of his daughter Sterling’s small hand resting on top of her parents’ hands. The cause of death has not been disclosed. Vesia had been away from the Dodgers since October 23, when the team stated the couple was facing a deeply personal matter.
